Dr. Rana
Quraishi has a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and
Biochemistry from Columbia University. She began
her career as a legislative assistant for healthcare
and technology at the US Senate and was a Congressional
Science Fellow. She has over fifteen years of
experience in finance and mergers and acquisitions.
In her last
corporate position, Dr. Quraishi led the business
development team for a GE Capital Company and
was subsequently Commercial Quality Leader for
GE Capital. In 2000, Dr. Quraishi was instrumental
in the start-up and financing of Helicon Therapeutics,
a genomics and drug discovery company focused
on therapeutics for memory.
In the private
equity arena, Dr. Quraishi was a Principal at
Conning Capital Partners, a private equity firm
and has served on several Boards. Dr. Quraishi
also worked with the New York City Partnership
and Investment Fund to prepare the first extensive
study on the potential for development of biotechnology
in New York City and prepared the report entitled
"Market Demand Study for Commercial Biotechnology,
Biomedical and Bioinformatics Facilities in
New York City" with the Partnership.
